About Sturges Memorial Church
St Sturges Memorial began as a pioneer Sunday School in 1865, just after the end of the Civil War. The roots of Congregationalism go back to the time of the New England pilgrims, and we cherish our independence of thought and governance. We are affiliated with the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (NACCC). All decisions in the life of our church are vested in the authority of the congregation, hence our designation as “Congregationalists.” Day-to-day operations are handled by our Trustees.
Our theology and belief system are Reformed, much like the 17th century pilgrims. Our members are bound to one another by our fellowship with the Risen Christ and our local covenant. We observe two sacraments, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (communion), and we gather each Lord’s Day for worship and teaching by our pastor. Everyone is welcome to worship with us, and we encourage folks to come as they are. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month and observe an open table. All persons are welcome to partake of the communion elements.
Located on the southernmost end of Port Huron in South Park, we are committed to serving our neighbors in Christ as the Holy Spirit leads us. We are open and affirming to all people.urges Memorial began as a pioneer Sunday School in 1865, just after the end of the Civil War.
